The Dots…

So who remembers “The karate kid”?

This young boy who wanted to learn the art of fighting for some reason and then decides to walk up to a master of the art to teach him. The young boy was very much enthusiastic.

The first day, the master asks him to paint his fence, LMAO!

Like I’m here to learn how to fight and you’re telling me to paint the fence! But the boy did what he was told to do somehow, hoping they’d go into the main course afterwards.

Next lesson, the master tells him to wash his car, not just anyhow but in a specific motion, a circular motion, LMAO again. I even remember Jaden Smith’s karate kid being told by his master to put on and pull off his jacket and then hang the jacket, LOL!

Okay, so the point is, all of these lessons were essential for him to learn the art of fighting, the master knew this but he didn’t. He couldn’t connect the dots looking forward but he just kept at it.

Fast forward to when he becomes a good fighter, he now discovers that all the subskills of painting, washing, hanging were somehow essential for him to move and learn the major skill he was after.

Looking back, he could now connect the dots.

A lot of us out here just feel like certain things we go through are pointless and meaningless, myself as well. But it’s important to learn to endure the process of things.

Steve Jobs was taking typography classes at a time when he didn’t know he was going to start Apple. But the typography classes became very very useful when he started Apple, the company.

At the end of the day, we can’t connect the dots looking forward but it won’t be impossible to connect the dots when we look back in time later in life.

Enjoy the present and Endure the process
